More Kurt Vile. Older record: Childish Prodigy. Video is nothing to write home about but the song is great

Artist: Kurt Vile/ Song: Baby's Arms/ Album: Smoke Ring for a Halo/ Director: Todd Cole

Remember when MTV showed music videos? I miss those days.

This video is seriously cool. It follows a day in the life of a young couple in East LA (warning: video contains make-out sessions and drug paraphernalia). They're a real couple and the video is of things they actually do, in places they actually go. So, it's a mini-documentary/music video. The song is also awesome. The photographer/director is Todd Cole, an LA-based artist, so it does have that LA hipster feel (which is easy to love hate), but it's hard to be put off by that when the director really didn't preen the couple too much.

See the behind the scenes video here (it's also an ad for Windows or a phone or some combination of the two, btw).

alone, gettin high on dopamine

After 5 days of staying with strangers (though v cool, down-to-earth, accommodating strangers) and sharing a bedroom with my brother (the one that is generally the yin to my yang), I am taking a break from social interaction, hiding out in my bedroom all day, doing my best to avoid the zillions of people coming in and out of my house. And as I was laying here I started thinking how soothing solitude can be. It's a glorious feeling. My dopamine levels must just be through the roof.

My new place in Chicago is going to need some work before it can be the refuge I'm gonna need to survive the city-stimulation, but I think it'll get there.  I'm so glad the apartment-hunt is over, and I have over a month until the move begins. I decided to go with a roommate situation in a fairly large, two-bedroom apartment near Loyola. It's old and rickety, but I tend to like that sort of thing.  My room will need painting, since it's a hideous orange right now.  And the place is pretty empty, so I'm still going to need to buy furniture, etc. I'm considering moving earlier than I expected so that I can make sure it feels homey before school starts, but we'll see since that's probably not a good idea financially. I should probably stick around and sling fries to make as much cash as possible before I leave. Decisions, decisions...

p.s. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and well-wishes during the hunt!
