The news from China today says that a man died after a woman squeezed his testicles too hard. A skeptical Jesus Diaz, of Gizmodo, asked Dr. Irwin Goldstein, a urologist who specializes in sexual medicine, about the possibility of this death grip. What the doctor says may surprise you:
Yes, the testicles are exquisitely sensitive to touch and there is a huge release of adrenalin when there is excessive force applied to these organs.
Testicular pain is referred to the lower abdomen, mesenteric plexus, and causes men to stop abruptly what they are doing, lie on the ground, close their eyes and bend their knees.
A heart attack could certainly result from severe testicular pain from squeezing.
I think we all knew that testicles aren't the most hardy of bodily organs, but I was shocked to learn that men are so "exquisitely sensitive." Anyway, (here's my inappropriate and insensitive segue) this story makes me think of this Betty White quote:
Why do people say "grow some balls"? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding.
A few friends and I were talking about this quote a couple of months ago, and we were trying to think of some female equivalents for "grow some balls" or (what seems more common) "grow a pair." We didn't come up with anything. But last week, our friend T. offered up, "lose a pair." What do you think? I think it's ready for circulation (especially in light of current events).
